CSK vs PBKS: Punjab Kings registered their fourth victory in the IPL 2024 by defeating CSK at the latter’s home ground. PBKS looked much more balanced in their approach and stuck to their game plan against CSK to defeat them by 7 wickets with that victory PBKS jumped up to the seventh spot of the points table and CSK slipped to fourth.

After winning the toss, PBKS invited CSK to bat first. CSK’s skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ajinkya Rahane gave the team the start needed. They posted 64 runs on the board at the end of 8 overs without losing a wicket, but in the ninth over, the tides shifted towards PBKS as Harpreet Brar picked two wickets, dismissing Ajinkya Rahane and Shivam Dube in the same over. Shivam Dube got out on a golden duck. Batters afterward failed to contribute anything significant; only skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad scored a fifty for his team, and CSK posted 163 runs on the board.

Chasing 164 runs on a challenging wicket wasn’t going to be easy. That’s what was expected, but PBKS’ batters, who were high on confidence, made it easy with opener Jonny Bairstow scoring runs from one end. Despite losing Prabhsimran Singh early, Rilee Rossouw and Bairstow didn’t let the Run Rate go higher and contributed crucial runs in the win. Shashank Singh and Sam Curran later took the team to a remarkable seven-wicket victory at Chepauk as PBKS chased the total in 17.5 overs.

Very happy (with the win tonight). Everytime you come to Chennai and take two wins, always a special feeling. Same as last year, we lost a lot of our home games and won away, finding a similar pattern. We are in a position where we need to win all our games, we come up against the same opposition in a few days. I think when you come to Chennai, you know how hot it is and the dew is going to settle in. Today we wanted to try something different by trying Rabada in the powerplay. We wanted to use our spinners later on, so took a punt on trying KG (Rabada) within the powerplay.

(We were) Probably 50-60 runs short, the pitch wasn’t great when we batted, but it got better later on. With the impact rule as well, we were well short. I’ve practised the tosses (during the practice sessions), but it’s not going well in the match, not sure what to do. To be truthful, I’m under pressure when I go to the middle (for the toss). We were also surprised that we won by a big margin in the last match considering the conditions (win by 78 runs against SRH). I think the last two games, the conditions and pitch was better, it allowed us to fight hard and get to 200+, today, it wasn’t good enough to get to even 180.
