SRH vs CSK: Pat Cummins celebrating wicket with his teammates

Ruturaj Gaikwad and Co. failed to score big while batting first, and SRH reached the target comfortably in the 19th over of the match, beating the five-time champions by six wickets.

SRH’s skipper, Pat Cummins, chose to bowl after winning the toss and invited CSK to bat first. Ruturaj and Rachin Ravindra started the innings for CSK, but Rachin Ravindra failed to impress and got out with a score of 12. Ruturaj and Ajinkya Rahane batted cautiously and took the score to 54. But, while trying to build pressure on the new bowler, the skipper threw his wicket, giving a simple catch to the long-on fielder. He scored 26 runs. Shivam Dube provided the power needed for CSK’s innings and hit 45 runs off 24 balls before getting dismissed. Ravindra Jadeja later took the team’s score to 165/5 at the end of 20 overs.

Chasing 166 on a slow pitch was a challenging task for the home team, but the opening pair of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma. Most of the SRH’s fans were expecting to see aggressive batting of Travis Head, but Indian batter Abhishek Sharma stole the limelight when he hit 26 runs in the second over of the chase and went on to score 37 runs in just 12 balls before getting dismissed. Travis and Markram glanced and took the team’s score beyond 100 in 10 overs. Markram scored his fifty before getting out. Though CSK took four wickets, giving away too many runs in the powerplay made the chase easier for SRH, and they chased the target with 11 balls to spare.

Different soil. Slowed up a little bit as the game went on. Shivam was hitting it well against the spin. Thought we’ll take chance with off-cutters. First thing is always to get the points. Wouldn’t want to be bowling to him (Abhishek) and Trav Head at the top. Crowd was crazy tonight. When MS walked out, it was as loud as I’ve ever heard.”

Pat Cummins said post-match

“I think to be honest, it was a slow pitch, They bowled well in the back-end, kept the game in control and didn’t allow us to capitalize. I thought we did well in the beginning (of the match), but they came back well later. It was a black soil pitch, so we expected the pitch to be slower, but it became slower and slower, and they used the boundary size well.
