Jasprit Bumrah’s unique record on first India vs Ireland T20I match.

Indian speedster Jasprit Bumrah made a comeback in the Indian team after almost a year. He last played a match back in September 2022 and since then has been out of the team following a back injury. With time, it was being questioned again and again whether he would be back in the team for the ICC World Cup 2023 or not, as he is one of the key pacers in the Indian team. But after battling a lot with his injury, Jasprit was back on the field with the same energy and immediately lighted up the jampacked stadium by taking two wickets in the very first over of the innings. He picked up Andrew Balbirnie and Lorcan Tucker’s wickets in the first over.

Jasprit Bumrah, on his debut as an Indian captain, set a unique record as the ace pacer was awarded Player of the Match for his impressive performance with the ball. With that, he became the only Indian player in T20I history to be awarded the Player of the Match award on his T20I captaincy debut. Jasprit, with those two wickets, became the joint fourth-highest wicket taker in T20Is for India. He shares the spot with Ravinchandran Ashwin, as both of them have taken 72 wickets in T20Is so far.

Jasprit Bumrah was leading the team for the first time in his career, and even after remaining out of the team for a long time, he was impressive in the first T20I match against Ireland. In his four-over spell, he picked up two wickets, with the help of other young bowlers like Prasidh Krishna and Ravi Bishnoi. India restricted Ireland to 139 in 20 overs, and while chasing the target of 140 runs, an incessant downpour ruined the show for the fans, and India was handed victory by 2 runs (DLS method).
