KL Rahul will not play in first two games, confirmed by Rahul Dravid.

India’s right-handed batter KL Rahul is not going to play in the first two games of the Asia Cup 2023, as confirmed by India’s head coach Rahul Dravid. The reason behind KL Rahul not playing in the matches against Pakistan and Nepal is still not clear, but it is speculated that it is because of the injury he sustained during the IPL 2023 when he was fielding, and since then he has been struggling with that. Rahul Dravid said that he has recovered from the injury he sustained and is doing well, but due to the niggle,” which is not related to the injury, he will not be playing the first two matches.

“KL Rahul is progressing really well but will not be available for India’s first two matches – against Pakistan and Nepal – of the Asia Cup Head Coach Rahul Dravid,”

BCCI tweeted quoting head coach Dravid.

India will be competing against Pakistan in their first match, which is on September 2, and after that, they have to compete against Nepal. KL Rahul will only be available at the Super Fours stage if India qualifies for that. As this time the Asia Cup is going to be played in a 50-over format, India needs someone who can handle the batting line-up really well and, at the same time, is good with the gloves. Though India has selected Sanju Samson as a backup wicketkeeper batter, it is most likely that left-handed batter Ishan Kishan will be selected in the playing XI.
