SFU vs WAF: San Francisco Unicorns destroyed Washington Freedom to win the first match of the Major Cricket League season 3.
Washington Freedom’s skipper, Glenn Maxwell, won the toss and was elected to bowl first. Tim Siefert and Finn Allen started the innings for SFU. Both batters were looking good and off to an explosive start; however, the former’s innings ended in the 3rd over as he got caught at long-off. Finn Allen continued with his explosive game, and it took him only 34 balls to reach his first Major League Cricket century. He didn’t stop there and went on to score 151 runs in the 51 deliveries before getting out. Other batters contributed to the total as SFU ended with 269 runs on the board at the end of 20 overs.
Chasing the target of 270 runs, WAF needed an explosive start, which Mitchell Owen and Rachin Ravindra provided. The openers deposited 80 runs on the board at the end of 5 overs, but with the first delivery of the last over of the powerplay, Rachin Ravindra got out. Soon, Mitchell Owen was trapped in a miscommunication that led to his dismissal, and in the 8th over, Harsi Rauf picked up the wickets of Glenn Maxwell and Glenn Phillips to push WAF on the backfoot. In 13.2 overs, WAF was bowled out for 146 runs.

MLC, 2025, Match 1: SFU vs WAF| Captains’ Corner
Historic performance by Finn (Allen). They (Seifert and Allen) took to their team pretty dominantly. With the start they (Freedom) got, I thought they were going to chase it early. People sitting at home and watching it on TV got to come out here and experience it. He (Hassan) is unbelievable. Rauf is a pro. Seen it in international cricket time and time again. We got a couple of more games out here. Putting on a historic night like that in Coliseum history was good.
Cory Anderson(SFU Captain) said post-match
Pretty impressive (on the venue), was a great spectacle for the crowd, but unfortunately we couldn’t get close. Finn Allen batted beautifully, he overpowered us, we had set plans, but this was a small ground and a beautiful wicket. The wicket changed a bit under lights, it held up a bit, but we lost too many wickets in the middle overs. We thought we had a chance, played well in the first 7 overs and then it fell apart. (On Lockie Ferguson) You’ll see him at some point of the tournament, he’s coming up well and might not be too long before he’s back.
