SFU vs SO: Seattle Orcas defeated San Francisco Unicorns by four wickets to come at number 4 in the points table.
Seattle Orcas, after winning the toss, decided to bowl first. Matthew Short and Finn Allen started the innings. Skipper Matthew Short got out in the first over on the score of 2, and then Jacke Fraser McGurk and Finn Allen built the partnership for the second wicket. Finn Allen got out after scoring 23 runs. Sanjay Krishnamurthi and Fraser McGurk took the innings forward, but the slowness of the pitch made the batters struggle to score big. At the end of 20 overs, San Francisco Unicorns scored 168/5.
Chasing the target of 169 runs, Seattle Orcas didn’t get the start they wanted as Steven Taylor got out on a duck and then Kyle Mayers got dismissed on three runs. Seattle Orcas were in trouble, though Shayan Jahangir held his end to score 36 runs. Karima Gore bowled him. The left-handed batter Shimron Hetmyer launched the attack from his end and closed the chase gap. Hetmyer ensured that his team ended up on the winning side as Seattle Orcas chased the total in 19.3 overs.

There was a touch tacky. The wicket’s been undercover for a fair bit today. We knew that was going to be the case. I think we had to battle a little bit smarter. Look, to be honest, we didn’t bat too badly. Maybe they bowled really well towards the end of their innings. We probably left a few out there late. Probably things to learn for the next game. [Promote Shepherd or Bartlett up the order] Oh, look, it’s definitely mentioned. Looking back in hindsight, you see Sheph get out there and hit a couple of sixes. But we have got Tim Seifert, a powerful hitter. Hassan Khan’s been going at a 230 strike rate for the tournament. They’re both batters in their own right.

We had a belief after the first game where we chased 230-odd against MI New York. The beauty about it is we are winning the crunch moments. Hetmyer is doing a good job for us. You never have a perfect game. I would have taken that (160-170) total at the start of the match. Our bowling performance was good, so really happy with that. Could sharpen our fielding a little bit. The management had to make a few decisions at the halfway stage of the tournament. We just backed our management’s decision. So we just tried to play for each other. Need to play as professionals and a professional team.
