Netherlands emphatic win over West Indies has shocked everyone in the cricket community, as the Netherlands extraordinary performance in the match gave West Indies their second defeat in the ICC World Cup qualifiers 2023, which are happening in Zimbabwe. West Indies set a hard-to-chase target of 375 runs for the Netherlands, and the latter leveled the score by making 374 runs in 50 overs. The match went to the super over, where Logan Van Beek of the Netherlands smashed Jason Holder for 30 runs, and the Caribbeans didn’t stand up to the task of making 31 runs and got defeated by the Dutch.
Batting first at Harare’s Takashinga Sports Club on Monday (June 26), the West Indies put a gigantic total on the scoreboard: 374 runs in 50 overs. Left-handed batter Nicholas Pooran scored a century in his power-hitting mode, scoring an unbeaten 104 runs. Brandon King and Jhonson Charles also scored half centuries. Charles scored 54 and King scored 76 runs, which took the team’s total to 374 runs. The West Indies were looking strong with such a total on the board, but it was just a matter of time before the Netherlands pulled off a mind-boggling victory over the West Indies.
Netherlands’ Teja Nidamanuru century kept the hopes of the Netherlands alive in the match, supported by a quick fire of 67 runs in 47 balls by Scott Edwards. The Dutch leveled the score at 374 runs and fell short of just 1 run to claim the victory earlier, but it was the super over where the match reached its climax, and the way Logan Van Beek hit 30 runs in the over, the match turned to the Netherlands’ side as West Indies managed to score only 8 runs. This was one of the most successful chases by any team in the qualifiers.
