NZ(W) vs IND(W): India women defeated New Zealand women by 6 wickets in the 3rd and final ODI of the series to clinch the series by 2-1.
New Zealand skipper Sophie Devine chose to bat first after winning the toss. Openers Suzie Bates and Georgia Plimmer started well, with both being cautious while scoring runs, but in the sixth over, a miscommunication led to the departure of Suzie Bates as New Zealand lost its first wicket on 24 runs. Lauren Down was next to get dismissed, and skipper Sophie Devine fell into the spin trap, losing her wicket on 9 runs. Brooke Halliday held his ground and partnered with Plimmer, but spinner Priya Mishra got rid of the latter; another miscommunication led to the run out of Maddy Green. Brooke Halliday remained the highest scorer from New Zealand’s side with 86 runs. New Zealand got all out on 232 runs.
Chasing 233 runs, India’s start wasn’t good as Shafali Verma got out early in the powerplay on the score of 12. Yastika Bhatia and Smriti Mandhana partnered for the second wicket and took the team to the score of 92 runs. However, after the fall of Yastika Bhatia, it was a partnership of skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana that ensured India’s victory. Mandhana scored her century, and the skipper scored an unbeaten 59 to take India to a series win by 6 wickets.

Pleased with the result. As I said in the morning, we discussed a lot of things. Happy we executed them today. Whenever we are playing, we want to give 100%. Sometimes, it doesn’t go your way. You have to think what is your job, role. Even though we lost badly lost game, we were confident we could pull it off today. I should give credit to Smriti. She was struggling but she managed to score well. It was important as we wanted to win the series at any cost. Happy we had that partnership and got through. (What next?) I’m always talking about fielding, as a team we have to keep working hard. We want to become the best fielding team
Harmanpreet Kaur(India Captain) said post-match
I’m incredibly proud of the group, we’ve lost one of our best players. The fact we took a strong India side to the decider I’m proud of. Now we’ll get some rest. Mandhana was brilliant. Halliday was excellent battling the heat. We’re building trust that if we lose early wickets, we can still get a good score. Players are showing intent, put themselves out there in tough conditions. We took the blueprint from the WC. Pretty sure Tahuhu’s bowling on one leg. The new spinners have shown resilience. The wicket slid on with dew, we weren’t good enough today. We’ll go home, reflect, resume in the next series
