“Sky is limit for him” Ilia Topuria’s Manager Backed Ilia’s Decision To Fight Makhachev
UFC featherweight champ Ilia Topuria proved to everyone how special he is with his impressive victory over Max Holloway at UFC 308. He didn’t just win the fight. He won the way he said he would by knocking out Max Holloway, who claimed to have an Iron chin. “El Matador” needed just two perfect shots to put the former champ to the ground, and it was a good night for Max Holloway. Ilia Topuria in a single year defeated two former champs to become an recognizable force and made his doubters his fan with his UFC 308 victory.
Prior to fighting Max Holloway, Ilia Topuria expressed his desire to move to the lightweight to fight Islam Makhachev. Not only that, he said that he would beat Islam Makhachev on the ground and submit him in the fight.
“If they call me and they want me to move up to the lightweight division, I will be okay with that to move up and be the first one to submit Islam. And if they want me to keep defending the belt in the featherweight division, I will be okay with that, too. So, let’s leave that decision to the UFC.
Ilia Topuria said before UFC 308
Now, after the UFC 308, he certainly opens the path to get the super fight against Islam Makhachev in the lightweight division, but getting it booked is up to UFC, and it is almost certain that MMA fans would see a rematch between Ilia Topuria and former champ Alexander Volkanovski next or maybe an interim featherweight title bout between Volkanovski and Deigo Lopes. Whatever the next match is, Ilia’s Manager, Lukasz Orzel, is confident that if Ilia moves up in the weight class to fight Islam Makhachev, he will beat Islam.
“We have 20 black belts in our gym, and I can tell you that after just two years training in Climent Club, nobody took even one point off Ilia. Ilia is the Ronaldo of mixed martial arts. So the sky is limit for him.”
Orzel said.
