India’s right-handed batter Prithvi Shaw, after being out of the Indian squad for nearly 2 years, played his last match for India back in 2021 against Sri Lanka. Since then, he has been neglected by the selectors, so he decided to try his luck overseas for some time and is currently representing Northamptonshire in England’s One-Day Cup tournament. This is Prithvi’s first season in county cricket, and he showed his mettle by scoring 244 runs in the match. To achieve this feat, he took only 123 balls. Due to his splendid batting, Northamptonshire won the match by 87 runs against Somerset.
Prithvi Shaw’s double hundred took the score of Northamptonshire to 415 in 50 overs. In reply to a target of 416, Somerset only managed to reach 328 runs. Prithvi Shaw hit 25 boundaries and 8 sixes in his innings, and he broke the previous record for the maximum runs in the tournament, which was 206 hit by Ollie Robinson one year ago in 2022. After his extraordinary innings during the post-match presentation, when he was asked about his opinion on his return to the Indian squad, he honestly said that he is now focusing on the current opportunity i.e. county cricket and enjoying playing in England.
“Definitely (here for the) experience for sure. Not really thinking what the Indian selectors may be thinking, but I just want to have a good time here,” Shaw said after the game. “Northamptonshire have given me this opportunity… They’re really looking after me. I’m really enjoying it.”

He now holds the record for the highest score by an overseas batter in England’s List A cricket.
