Big Win For RCB Franchise As RCB(W) Clinch Maiden WPL Title By Defeating Delhi Capitals In Final Of WPL 2024

Smriti Mandhana-led RCB lifted their first WPL trophy by winning the WPL 2024 final against the Meg Lanning Delhi Capitals.

The moment that all RCB fans were waiting for finally came to fruition as RCB (W) won the first Indian T20 league trophy. Royal Challengers Bangalore (W) clinical victory over the table toppers Delhi Capitals ended the trophy drought of the RCB franchise, though RCB heavily wanted to have an IPL trophy, but nonetheless, women are the ones who fulfilled the wishes of the fans ahead of the IPL 2024, which is going to kick off on March 22, 2024. Smriti Mandhana-led RCB rips through the Delhi Capitals all-rounder-filled line-up, who absolutely dominated the league stage, losing just one game in the seven they played.

The Delhi Capitals started well while batting first. Shafali Verma and skipper Meg Lanning powered their team to a score of 61 in the powerplay, which was their second-best score in the initial six overs, but it was the second over of Sophie Molineux’s spell where the wind started blowing in a different direction as RCB started dominating the game. The left-arm spinner picked up three wickets in her over, sending back Shafali, Jemimah, and Capsey in the same over. The Delhi Capitals failed to recover from the blows and were bowled out for 113 runs. RCB’s spinner, Shreyanka Patil, took four wickets in the match.

Chasing the score of 114 runs, RCB didn’t look in a hurry to finish the match and took it to the final overs of the game. Smriti Mandhana batted for 15 overs calmly, and on the other end, Ellyse Perry didn’t let the required run rate shoot up, though Delhi Capitals bowlers tried to build the pressure on the RCB’s batters but failed to do so, and the moment of the victory came when Richa Ghosh smacked a lofted boundary over covers when three runs were needed in four balls of the last over. RCB were crowned champions of the WPL 2024 after registering a win by eight wickets.
