“Virat Kohli Showed Intent”: Rohit Sharma’s Opinion On Kohli’s Golden Duck

Rohit Sharma scored his fifth century in the third T20I against Afghanistan, where Virat Kohli got out on a golden duck.

India vs. Afghanistan 3rd T20I match of the series was a spectacle for the fans. The match went for a total of 43.3 overs, with two super overs after Rohit Sharma’s century and Rinku Singh‘s powerful hitting. The Bengaluru’s crowd saw the resilience of Afghanistan’s batters, who gave scare to the Indian fans for some time. Not just the batters of Afghanistan, their bowlers were on their way to upset the Indian fans when they sent back the top order of the Indian team at a score of 22. In fact, Bengaluru’s favorite and ex-India skipper Virat Kohli, who was expected to entertain the crowd, got out on a golden duck. Afghanistan’s Fareed Ahmad delivered a hard length, which Virat Kohli tried to hit hard and ultimately threw his wicket.

Though India recovered from the early shocks courtesy of the Rohit Sharma and Rinku Singh partnership for the fifth wicket, which is the highest fifth wicket partnership of Indian batters in the T20I,. Despite Virat Kohli’s golden duck, Rohit Sharma praised the ex-India captain for his intent to score from the first ball he faced. While talking to Jio Cinema broadcaster, India’s skipper said:

We only need to give the players clarity to the players about their position and the manner of cricket we want them to play with. The boys know what to expect when they come out onto the ground. As you saw today, Kohli tried to go hard from the word go, he normally does not do that, but he showed the intent. Same with Samson, he was out first ball, but the intent was there,”

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are both back in the T20I format after a 14-month-long break, and they will be playing in the T20 World Cup 2024.
