DSG vs PR: Paarl Royals registered 4th consecutive victory to maintain their top position in the points table.
DSG, after winning the toss, decided to bat first. Quinton de Kock and Matthew Breetzke opened the innings for DSG and gave the team a good start. At the end of the powerplay, DSG had 50 runs for no wicket; the partnership went on to score 62 runs, and in the 9th over, Bjorn Fortuin picked up Matthew Breetzke’s wicket to get the first breakthrough for his team. Though PR dropped some catches, the bowlers kept building the pressure and got the wickets of Quinton de Kock, Heinrich Klaasen, and Kane Williamson under 13 overs. Wiaan Mulder and JJ Smuts contributed some runs to take their team to the score of 142 runs at the end of 20 overs.
Chasing a total of 147 runs, PR started with Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Joe Root, but the latter was caught at slip in the first over of the chase as DSG bowlers struck early in the powerplay and then Pretorius got dismissed. Rubin Hermann didn’t let DSG celebrate for long and partnered with Mitchell Van Buuren to boost the scoreboard. The former scored a blistering 44 runs in just 22 balls, and the latter scored 41 runs for his team to take it closer to victory. Dinesh Karthik ended the chase with a boundary as PR chased the target in 17.3 overs.

Going really well. chuffed and pleased with the results. They came hard at us (in the powerplay), we pulled it back really well. Really nice performance with the ball. Malinga came in and pulled it back – 20 from his first over and then three phenomenal overs on the trot (at the death). Nice to have someone like him (to be there at the death). (On the middle order scoring runs) It is great. With the great starts we have had…one of them has performed if the other hasn’t. Tonight showed we have depth (in our batting) and closing out the game the way we did. Really pleased with Mitch (van Buuren) and Rubin (Hermann) came out guns blazing, playing the way he does.

We were maybe 15-20 runs shy on a wicket like this. We lost our way a little bit. They bowled well, their plans were good. We gave away too many boundaries in the powerplay and could not get back (in the game). We did not take too much pace off the ball, especially in the powerplay. In hindsight, it is hard to say but now, it is about getting results in our favour and anything can happen (after that). Quinny doing what he does at the top. We know he (Klaasen) is due, hopefully he gets three big performances (in the games that remain). Just to the fans, thanks for all the loyalty.
