DSG vs PR: Paarl Royals registered another exciting victory over Durban’s Super Giants in the match 23rd of the SA20 league.
DSG won the toss and decided to bat first, and got the worst start possible as both openers Quinton de Kock and Brandon King got out early in the powerplay, where the former got out on duck, and the latter scored just 3 runs. Bryce Parsons hit some boundaries but couldn’t go beyond 16 runs. Kane Williamson and Marcus Stoinis partnered for the 4th wicket and kept running the scoreboard. Williamson fell short of his fifty and got out on 45 runs. After hitting 2 boundaries to Maphaka, Heinrich Klaasen got caught by the bowler. Stoinis held his end and scored his fifty, taking his team’s score to 143 runs at the end of 20 overs.
Chasing the target of 144 runs, Paarl Royals started with Joe Root and Lhuan-dre Pretorius. The former got out without scoring a run, but Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Rubin Hermann didn’t let the early wicket down their confidence. Both batters started taking on DSG’s bowlers and built a partnership of 91 runs for the 2nd wicket. Rubin Hermann scored 59 runs before getting out. Lhuan-dre Pretorius dismissed on 43 runs, and Dinesh Karthik hit a few sixes to close the run gap. In the final over of the match, when PR required 3 runs in 2 balls, Dayyaan Galiem hit a six to finish the game.

Phenomenal. Fantastic support from the local fans and thank you very much to everyone for coming out. We wouldn’t have done well without you, the local fans do really get behind us and it is a great vibe. (On winning five out of five games at home) First time, 5/5 at home. Guys have been spectacular, sticking to the plans. (On his injury) My right groin is a little tight. 35 now (smiles), but just a little tweak there. Tried to get off before it could get any worse. It is just so good to see the youngsters (like Hermann and Pretorius) coming through and showing their skill. Really lucky to have them, even more so now.

Probably a decision not going our way, everyone makes mistakes. Full credit to our boys, really proud of them, they showed character until the end. Kane and Marcus showed their class and their quality, put a decent total on. We bowled well as a unit – tough to pinpoint where it went wrong. Fielded pretty well too. Full credit to the (Royals) batters for the way they batted. (On the score) I still felt like we were in the game.
Keshav Maharaj(Durban’s Super Giants’ Captain) said post-match
