Sarfaraz Naushad Khan was born on October 22, 1997, in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, to Naushad Khan (his father) and Tabassum Khan (his mother). He spent the majority of his childhood in Mumbai, seeing his father nurture young cricketers at Azad Maidan, Mumbai. His father, Naushad Khan, started his training at a very young age, and Sarfaraz’s younger brothers, Musheer and Moeen Khan, followed in the footsteps of the elder brother. Due to his sporting career, Sarfaraz was unable to give proper time to his studies. To fill the educational gap, his father hired private tutors in mathematics and English so that his son’s studies wouldn’t be compromised.

Domestic Career

Sarfaraz Naushad Khan’s domestic career started in 2014, when he played his Ranji Trophy match against Bengal. One year prior to his Ranji Trophy match, he scored a phenomenal hundred against the South African U-19s. Sarfaraz played for the U-19 Indian team in the 2014 and 2016 U-19 World Cups and still holds the record for the most number of fifties in the U-19 World Cup. From 2015-16, he started representing Uttar Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy and played eight matches for the state in three seasons. He then returned to Mumbai’s team, and in January 2020 while playing against Uttar Pradesh, he scored his maiden triple century in first-class cricket. 

IPL Career:

Seeing his impressive performance in India’s U-19 matches, he was inducted into the RCB’s team in 2015 and became the youngest Indian batter to play in the IPL that year. It was his unbeaten score of 45 off just 21 balls against the Rajasthan Royals in 2015 that brought him into the limelight, but his performance in the IPL didn’t get better than that, and he was later released by the RCB. In 2019 and 2020, he represented the Punjab Kings, and in 2022, he was purchased by the Delhi Capitals for his base price of Rs 20 lakh. He represented the Delhi Capitals in the IPL in 2022 and 2023 and also served as wicketkeeper for the Delhi franchise in 2023.

International Career:

The much-awaited moment for Sarfaraz Khan came in 2024, when he received his maiden test call from the Indian team during the India vs. England test series. He made his international test debut on February 15, 2024, playing against England, and scored a sensational fifty in the debut match; unfortunately, he couldn’t turn his fifty into his maiden hundred as he got run-out after a miscommunication with his partner Ravindra Jadeja, who was batting at 99 at the time. He scored 62 runs before getting out, and he continued his brilliant run-scoring in the second inning as well, where he scored 68 runs.
