STA vs SIX: Melbourne Stars won its 3rd consecutive Big Bash League match after defeating Sydney Sixers by 16 runs in the 28th of the tournament match.
After winning the toss, Sydney Sixers decided to bowl first, and Melbourne Stars’ openers Ben Duckett and Sam Harper started the innings for their team. Ben Duckett started the innings with a bang, hitting Akeal Hosein to 12 runs in the first over. Sam Harper also hit a boundary in the next over, but while trying to hit another one, he got caught at mid-wicket by Edwards. Beau Webster entered the crease to support his fellow mate Duckett, but the latter got out after scoring 20 runs. Later, Dan Lawrence got caught on the score of 14, and Melbourne Stars were 3/49 in 7 overs. Skipper Stoinis couldn’t go beyond 4 runs. Glenn Maxwell and Webster built the partnership required as the former scored his fifty and completed 3000 runs in the league. Melbourne Stars ended with 156/5 on the board in 20 overs.
Chasing 157 runs, Sydney Sixers opened with Josh Philippe and James Vince. Mark Steketee was quick to strike and dismissed Josh Philippe on the score of 8 runs. Kurtis Patterson stayed on the crease for some time and supported James Vince in the chase, but a flipper by Usama caught him in front of the wicket as the Sixers lost their second wicket. Vince scored his fifty, and skipper Marcus Stoinis picked up his and Sixers’ skipper Moises Henriques’s wicket in the same over to turn the match in his team’s favor, ultimately winning the match by 16 runs.
