KL Rahul will not be playing in the first two games of India in the Asia Cup 2023 as the batter got a niggle recently which, as confirmed by the India’s head coach, is not because of his hamstring injury which the player sustained during the IPL. When the right-handed batter was named in the 17 player squad for the Asia Cup 2023 many former cricketers and some experts questioned the selectors’ decision for including KL Rahul’s in the squad though Sunil Gavaskar was not one of those in fact he supported the India squad and called it the best squad for the Asia Cup 2023 but recently Sunil Gavaskar opened up on KL Rahul’s future in the team ahead of the World Cup 2023.
“You know, mostly, I think the fact that he’s not gone is possibly because of the fact that he wants treatment to be continued at the hands of the same physios who have been treating him at the NCA. But then, yes, I think it’s a tricky situation because if he’s not playing any game before the 5th of September, how do you assess his situation? Because practice match is one thing and match fitness is another thing. So, I think it’s gonna be a tough call for the selection committee,”

KL Rahul after getting injured during a match in the IPL hasn’t played a match and according to Sunil Gavaskar selectors should be careful before naming him for the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 squad if he doesn’t perform now though Gavaskar also appreciated the right-handed batter for his batting technique but he doesn’t want any lag while selecting the squad for the World Cup and even suggested selectors to look beyond Rahul.
“you might get the answer in the first two matches itself. In which case, you might have to look beyond Rahul, but that’s gonna be sad, but that’s the reality. Because you can’t take chances with him. I’m all for taking him because of the fact that he’s always been a classy player. But if it is not going to be seen in a match situation, before the World Cup squad is announced, I think it is going to be tough for him to be in the World Cup squad
