BAN(W) vs SCO(W): Bangladesh(W) defeated Scotland(W) in the T20 World Cup 2024 opener by 16 runs.
After winning the toss, Bangladesh skipper Nigar Sultana chose to bat first, and openers Shathi Rani and Murshida Khatun gave a decent start to the team. Murshida Khatun got out after scoring 12 runs. Shathi Rani and Sobhana Mostary stabilized the innings and scored runs from both ends. Opener Rani got out after scoring 29 runs, and in quick time, Scotland got another wicket of Taj Nehar, who got dismissed on a duck. Scotland’s bowlers maintained the pressure and didn’t leak too many runs, restricting the Bangladesh side to the score of 119/7 at the end of 20 overs.
Chasing the target of 120 runs, Scotland’s start wasn’t good as opener Saskia Horley got out early in the powerplay. Sarah Bryce held her end and continued scoring runs. Bangladesh spinners were making it harder for Scotland’s side to score runs, and under pressure, Scotland’s side kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Skipper Kathryn Bryce tried building a partnership but failed to take her team towards the target and got out after scoring 11 runs. Sarah Bryce scored 49 runs and remained not out but failed to take her team to victory as Bangladesh won the match by 16 runs.

T20 Women’s World Cup 2024, Match 1st: BAN(W) vs SCO(W)| Captains’ Corner
It is always going to be tough.. Playing our first game in the T20 World Cup and hopefully it gets better in the next couple of weeks. It was great to get out there and get some game time. We were sloppy in the field and in a tight game those are things that can cost you. Horley was ready for that and calm under pressure.
Kathryn Bryce(Scotland’s Women Captain) said post-match
We have been waiting for this for a long time. This means a lot for us and everyone in the team. It was a kind of wicket where you need time to settle and Shathi and Mostary managed to do that. The conditions were pretty hot and we ran a lot of twos. We are trying to do something different, Tej came up and tried to hit some boundaries, but unfortunately she got out. We have the momentum, seeing the girls happy and smiling is the biggest inspiration for me.
