SA(W) vs SCO(W): South Africa bounced back from its last loss to defeat Scotland by 80 runs in the match 11th of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024.
South Africa’s skipper, Laura Wolvaardt, won the toss and elected to bat first. Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits gave their team the start they needed. Both batted cautiously and scored runs from both ends; both had a partnership of 64 runs for the first wicket as Laura Wolvaardt got out after scoring 40 runs. Anneke Bosch and Brits partnered for a brief, but Anneke Bosch got caught at long-off on the score of 11. Soon, Tazmin Brits got dismissed; it was Marizanne Kapp’s quick innings of 43 runs off 24 balls, which helped South Africa put 166 runs on the board at the end of 20 overs.
Chasing the target of 167 runs, Scotland’s start wasn’t good as opener Sarah Bryce got dismissed early in the powerplay. It didn’t take much time to get the second breakthrough as Saskia Horley got out after scoring 6 runs. Skipper Kathryn Bryce couldn’t do much for her team and got caught and bowled like her sibling Sarah Bryce to the same bowler. South Africa’s bowlers were not letting Scotland’s batters score runs easily and kept pushing on. Scotland was 6 down for 46 runs, and it was certain that South Africa would win the game, which they did by bowling out Scotland on the score of 86 runs.

We did speak about it coming into this game. Tough to decide what to do at the toss. We felt the best chance to win the game was to put a lot of runs on the board and restrict them. After the powerplay, we were looking at 160-170. (On the flexibility in their batting order) He (the batting coach) has sleepless nights in his room thinking about the batter order (smiles). We wanted to be ruthless and show what we are about and kill it off the way we did. Every day has been different. You can come in with all the plans in the world but every game has been different. Nice to have so many bowling options and all-round options. (On the match against Bangladesh) Massive game for us, we need a win.
Laura Wolvaardt(South Africa Captain) said post-match
There were a few chances we put down that proved costly, which meant we were chasing 160 rather than 140. When you are not usually under that sort of pressure, it is difficult (to execute). Something we will have to learn and get better at. (On playing against SA and sharing knowledge) It is great just to share the knowledge and share the field with them. You learn from them but when you come up against them, you also know it is going to be tough. (On bowling Carter) Little bit of a gut feel. She has been bowling brilliantly throughout the summer.
