Australia defeated Bangladesh by 28 runs(DLS) method in their first Super-8 match.

Australia vs Bangladesh: Australia won its first Super-8 match by defeating Bangladesh in a rain-interrupted match. Australia won by 28 runs (DLS method) to remain undefeated in the T20 World Cup 2024.

Australia’s skipper Mitchell Marsh decided to bowl first, and Mitchell Starc didn’t take much time to strike and sent Tanzid Hasan back to Pavilion in the first over of the match. Litton Das and skipper Shanto started scoring runs and did a good partnership of 50+ runs. After contributing 16 runs, Litton Das got out, and then Adam Zampa showed his prowess with the ball, taking the wickets of the skipper and Litton Das. Pat Cummins put the final nail in the coffin by taking a hat-trick in his spell, which is his first in the T20 World Cup, as Bangladesh scored 140/8 at the end of 20 overs.

While chasing the target of 141 runs, Australia’s openers gave an explosive start as rain was interrupting the match, and they wanted to score as many runs as possible before the showers got severe. David Warner and Travis Head scored 60 runs in the powerplay, but Rishad Hossain picked up back-to-back wickets of Travis Head and skipper Mitchell Marsh; David Warner kept going from one end and scored his fifty as Australia crossed the mark of 100 runs in 11.2 overs before rain made the continuation of the game impossible. Australia was declared the winner of the match using the DLS method.

T20 World Cup 2024 Super-8: Australia vs Bangladesh| Captains’ Corner

“Again this kind of team you have to take some gambling, like we put Rishad up at No. 4. We tried something different. (Personal run) Enjoying taking responsibility and I love to do that. So far doing alright. Hopefully I can contribute more. (India next…) I think very important today that the top order got some runs. We struggled last couple of matches. The bowling unit did good job last 2-3 games so hopefully bowlers will continue their form.”

Najmul Hossain Shanto(Bangladesh Captain) said post-match

(first half) really exciting bowling performance. Boys played well tonight. (Best playing XI, this?) It is a very good playing XI. We’ve got 15 guys that can take us deep in the World Cup. We’ll pick teams based on conditions. Long way to go. (His own role) Loving it. Great team. Lots of leaders within the group. Amazing staff keeps us prepared.”
