Bangladesh defeated Netherlands to almost confirm their way to Super-8.

Bangladesh vs Netherlands: Bangladesh outclassed the Netherlands in match number 27 of the T20 World Cup 2024 to win the match by 25 runs; their victory against “the Dutch” made their chances to qualify for the super-8 more certain.

After winning the toss, the Netherlands invited Bangladesh to bat first, and Tanzid Hasan and skipper Najmul Hussain Shanto started the innings for Bangladesh. The Netherlands didn’t take much time to strike, and in the second over, Aryan Dutt sent back Bangladesh’s skipper to the dugout. Litton Das was the next victim of the spin attack, and Engelbrecht’s fabulous catch in the deep mid-wicket dismissed him. Bangladesh veteran Shakib-al-Hasan and Tanzid Hasan batted cautiously to increase the runs on the scoreboard. The opener scored 35 runs before getting out whereas Shakib-al Hasan remained not out and scored his fifty with some contributions from other batters, Bangladesh posted 159/5 at the end of 20 overs.

Netherlands’s start wasn’t great as they lost both openers inside powerplay; Sybrand Engelbrecht and Vikramjit Singh did the partnership to run the scoreboard, but after their departure from the crease, the rest of the Netherlands’ batters didn’t impress much. Skipper Scott Edwards scored 25 runs to reach closer to the chase, but that wasn’t enough to take Netherlands to the target as they fell short of 25 runs.

T20 World Cup 2024 Match 27: Bangladesh vs Netherlands| Captains’ Corner

Boys showed lot of character in an important match. Shakib’s calm and we know how good he is. Happy for him. (Total) We didn’t know how the conditions will behave and what score is defendable. In the end batters and bowlers did well. Pitch is good, there was uneven bounce early on but good to bat on. Conditions were good. Fizz, we know how good he is. Showed his experience and skill. Rishad stood up like all the bowlers.

Najmul Hussain Shanto(Bangladesh Captain) post-match

We lost in all three facets. Credit to Bangladesh, they were great and we weren’t up to it. They kept wickets in hand. Would be tough to bowl to a windy boundary. Stand between him and Sybrand – We knew they had quality bowlers at the death and wanted to maximise the middle overs but fell quickly. Aryan has been sensational in the last couple years and used the conditions well. It’s a bit out of our hands now. Want to play well vs Sri Lanka and see how it goes from there.
