Namibia vs Oman: Namibia won a thrilling opener of their T20 World Cup 2024 journey by beating Oman in match number 3 of the marquee tournament. The match was a low-scoring spectacle, going to the Super Over, where Namibia came out victorious by 11 runs.
Namibia skipper Gerhard Erasmus, after winning the toss, chose to bowl first, and his decision paid off as Oman lost their first wicket in the very first ball of the match. Kashyap Prajapati got out, adding to the trouble their skipper Aqib Ilyas followed him in the next ball. Namibia were two down without a run on the board. Zeeshan Maqsood scored some runs, but his innings ended when he was on the score of 22. Khalid Kail was the highest run-scorer for his team and scored 34 runs as Oman put 109 runs on the board.
Chasing a total of 110 runs, Namibia’s start wasn’t good as well. Michael van Lingen got out on a duck in the first over. From there, Namibia kept calm, and Jan Frylinck Nikolaas Davin started to score runs. Where the latter scored 24 runs, and the former scored 45 runs, but Oman bowlers were too good to choke batters to score runs in the last over; when Oman had to defend 5 runs, Mehran Khan didn’t let the game slip away from his team’s grip and restrict Namibia on the score of 109.
In the Super Over, Namibia, batting first, scored 21 runs in 6 balls, courtesy of David Weise’s 13 runs. Eventually, Namibia defended the runs to win the match by 10 runs.

T20 World Cup 2024 Match 3: Namibia vs Oman| Captains’ Corner
It was tough to sum it up and get momentum. We tried that with running between the wickets but you felt you needed that odd boundary. Unfortunately we couldn’t do that, and we need to take accountability for that before the next game. (Jittery batting) It was a tough one on a tough wicket like that. It showed in the Super Over that if you put pressure there will be some scoring opportunity. (Super Over) We haven’t had one in a competition game. Great to be part of. Winning a close game early breaks the duck and brings you into the tournament. Experienced everything in this game.”
Gerhard Erasmus(Namibia Captain) said post-match
Yeah we could’ve enjoyed the game if we would’ve won, but still results… you know… losing and winning is part of cricket. We were maybe 15-20 short. We had already discussed this wicket was on the turning side. That’s where we short. (Super Over, had a plan?) I think Bilal is one of the best bowlers you can have in Associate and this level. But there are days where you plan and it doesn’t execute. He was clear, we were clear, but maybe the ball was wet and he couldn’t execute. Some days it is your day, some days it goes the opposite way.”
