Ireland vs Pakistan: Pakistan ended their T20 World Cup 2024 journey on a win note by registering their second league match win in the tournament.
\After winning the toss, Pakistan’s skipper Babar Azam chose to bowl first, and Shaheen Shah Afridi did what he meant to do, taking wickets in the first over of the match. He sent back Andy Balbirnie and Lorcan Tucker in the first over of the match. Ireland’s skipper, Paul Stirling, got out in the second over, and the Irish batting line-up started crumbling. Gareth Delany and Josh Little were the only batters from the Irish team who scored 20+ runs for their team as Ireland managed to put 106/9 on the scoreboard at the end of 20 overs.
Chasing the target of 107, Pakistan’s start was decent, but the twist came when Ireland picked two wickets in quick succession as both openers got out and Ireland announced their comeback. Babar Azam, on the one end, batted cautiously. On the other end, Ireland bowlers kept sending Pak’s batters to the dugout. Pakistan was 5 down, and the target was still 40 runs away. Then Abbas Afridi scored crucial runs to take his team closer to the target. Shaheen Afridi hit some shots in the end to take home the victory as Pakistan won the match by 3 wickets.

“Think so, played well I patches, start of the day didn’t go terribly well, they put pressure on us early on. Proud of the fight we’ve shown, 30 for 5 to get that score, wasn’t too far away. It’s getting that balance right. T20 we probably haven’t got that this time around. It’s been a difficult couple of weeks, go back regroup and see if we can come back stronger.”

“Yes we finished well, we took early wickets with the ball. With the bat we didn’t finish well. Lost back to back wickets, got over the line in the end. I think with the bowling, conditions suit our bowlers, in batting few mistakes in USA, India matches, when you lose wickets pressure is on you. Let’s see, what team needs, I’ll be okay with it. Have a good bunch of players, we’ve to go home, chat and see where we lacked, and then come back. Couldn’t finish off close games, as a team we weren’t good as a team.”
