Nepal vs Netherlands: In their first match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, Nepal suffered a setback from the Netherlands, who defeated Nepal by 6 wickets to increase their lead by two points in their Group.
After winning the toss, the Netherlands decided to bowl first, and the bowlers of the Netherlands picked up some quick wickets in the powerplay. Nepal lost their first wicket in the second over of the match as Aasif Sheikh got out after scoring 4 runs. Anil Sah and skipper Rohit Paudel kept the ground for a brief, but Netherlands left-arm spinners kept forcing Nepal’s batters to make mistakes, and inside 11 overs, Nepal was five wickets down. Skipper Rohit fought hard and scored 35 runs(the highest by any Nepal batters in the match). Nepal was bowled out on the score of 106 in 19.2 overs.
Chasing the target of 107 runs, the Netherlands lost an early wicket as Michael Levitt got out in the first over, which gave hope to Nepal’s fans. But Max O’Dowd spoiled the fans’ hopes and started batting cautiously with Vikramjit Singh. Both batters scored 43, and some sloppy fielding from Nepal’s players helped the Netherlands; though Nepal picked up four wickets, it wasn’t enough to win the match. Max O’ Dowd remained not out on 54 runs as the Netherlands won the game with 6 wickets in 18.4 overs.

T20 World Cup 2024 Match 7: Nepal vs Netherlands| Captains’ Corner
“Our bowlers were awesome up top. We got two or three wickets in the powerplay. All five of our bowlers were brilliant. Ideally we would have got the runs a little quicker, but it was great the way Max batted, and Bassie finished it off well. We’ve got to play consistent cricket right way through this tournament.”
Scott Edwards(Netherlands Captain) said post-match
“The conditions while batting were really challenging. Netherlands bowled really well. We could have stretched it a little more and had more partnerships through the middle. I was moving laterally and using the crease to upset the bowlers. After the start I got I could have done better. As a bowling unit we did really well. The last catch that I dropped was very well and we didn’t catch well. I want to thank the crowd. It felt like we were playing in Nepal. We are really grateful to them.”
