USA vs England: England became the first team in the Super-8 to qualify for the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2024 after their clinical victory over the USA.
England won the toss and chose to bowl first. USA’s start wasn’t ideal as they lost Andries Gous in the first over of the match. After that, Steven Taylor and Nitish Kumar built a partnership for a brief, but in the sixth over, Sam Curran broke the partnership by picking up the wicket of Steven Taylor. Skipper Aaron Jones contributed just 10 runs in the score as Adil Rashid picked his wicket. Corey Anderson scored 29 runs for his team before getting out. The tailenders weren’t able to contribute some runs, as three of them got out on a duck, Chris Jordan picked 4 in the 19th over to bowled out in 18.5 overs on the score of 115.
Chasing 116 runs, Jos Buttler and Phil Salt decided to finish the game as early as possible. Both batters were dealing with boundaries and sixes. USA’s bowlers looked clueless in front of England’s captain, as there was no stopping him. England was storming towards the target while Jos Buttler hit his fifty. England chased the target in 9.4 overs without losing wickets and became the first team to qualify for the Semi-finals.

“I thought if we could bring our intensity we’d be too good,” he says. He says they wanted to give themselves a chance of topping this group. Pays rich tribute to Rashid and Livingstone. “We’ve got great options. We wanted to bring Chris Jordan back, adds a bit of depth with his batting capabilities as well. A World Cup hat-trick is a great effort.” Feels he’s more confident in his own game, too. “I’m still one of the 11, I’ve got to do my job.”

“I guess you could say [we’ve run out of steam]. We’ve not had a good last two games. Something to look forward at for sure when we get back. But we’ve really enjoyed this tournament. I think our shot selection wasn’t the best. We knew he was the dangerman but we still gave him some wickets. This is our first World Cup. I don’t think people would have thought we’d be playing here against the big boys. Hopefully this will open the eyes of the American public. We’ve got a lot of calls and messages of support during this World Cup.”
