USA vs West Indies: West Indies boosted their NRR after defeating USA in the Super-8 match of T20 World Cup 2024 by 9 wickets.
West Indies skipper Rovman Powell chose to bowl after winning the toss. Steven Taylor and Andries Gous started the innings for the USA, but the former couldn’t score more than 2 runs for his team as Andre Russell picked up his wicket early in the match. Andries Gous was playing elegantly, and he got the support of Nitish Kumar, but when the West Indies spin attack came into play, the USA started losing quick wickets. Skipper Aaron Jones scored only 11 runs, and the rest of the batters contributed some runs in the later overs to take the team’s score to 128 runs as the USA was bowled out in 19.5 overs.
Chasing the target of 129 runs USA’s started with new opening pair of Shai Hope and Johnson Charles where the former looked aggressive from the start and attacked every bowler, Charles from the other end didn’t have much to do as Shai Hope was scoring in sixes and boundaries. West Indies posted 58 runs at the end of 6 overs and Shai Hope scored his fifty in just 26 balls. Johnson Charles got dismissed on 14, from there Hope didn’t stop and scored runs till the target was reached. West Indies won the match with 55 balls to spare by 9 wickets.

“It’s very special. Kensington brings very special memories for us. [On the bowling performance] I think [Chase] plays a critical role for us. He comes and tightens things. Credit has to be given to the boys, we set out to achieve our goals and we did. [On Hope] He’s been fantastic. He got an opportunity and was dropped due to combination but came back and performed. Shows the strength of the team.”
Rovman Powell(West Indies Captain) said post-match
“I think maybe, we probably needed a score around 175-180 and we obviously finished under par. In the middle we lost wickets in clusters. That’s very important in T20 cricket and we never recovered from that. Obviously we tried to take a few quick wickets in the powerplay. England will be a good challenge and we are up for it.”
