USA vs Pakistan: USA gave Pakistan one of the major setbacks of the T20 World Cup 2024 by defeating them in a thrilling encounter at the Grand Prairie Stadium, Texas. This was the second match of the tournament, which went to the Super Over, where the USA registered their second victory in the tournament.
After winning the toss, USA skipper Monank Patel chose to bowl first, and the USA introduced their spin attack to Pakistan’s openers. Rizwan hit a six in the first over to clear his intentions but in the next over, USA’s pace bowler Saurabh Netravalkar produced an edge, and Steven Taylor caught an absolute blinder in the slip to dismiss Mohammad Rizwan. Usman Khan was caught in the next over at long-off, and after the wicket of Fakhar Zaman, USA’s bowlers were dominating Pakistan. After losing three wickets in the powerplay, Babar Azam and Shadab Khan batted cautiously and slowly started increasing the runs on the scoreboard. Shadab Khan scored 40 runs before getting dismissed. Tail-enders scored some crucial runs to take the score to 159/7 at the end of 20 overs.
Chasing 160, USA’s start was decent, with Steven Taylor and skipper Monank Patel starting the chase cautiously against Pakistan’s bowlers. Both batters deposited 36 runs on the board inside 5 overs, but Naseem Shah made the breakthrough by dismissing Steven Taylor on 12 runs. Monank Patel and Andries Gous built the partnership required to close the chase gap. The skipper scored his first T20 World Cup fifty, and Gous contributed 35 crucial runs in the chase. Mohammad Amir made the comeback by dismissing Patel, but Aaron Jones didn’t let Pakistan take away the match. In the last over of the game, when the USA required 15 runs, Nitish Kumar hit a boundary in the last ball to tie the game.
In Super Over, USA scored 18 runs in 6 balls, and while defending that, Saurabh Netravalkar bowled well to defend that as USA won the match by 5 runs.

T20 World Cup 2024 Match 11: USA vs Pakistan| Captains’ Corner
Winning the toss, way we bowled in first six was where we won. We took wickets, did well till the 12th over. Shadab, Babar took chances, we knew they will. We knew it was a chaseable score and needed a good partnership from top-three. We got the game in our hand as me and Gous played till the 12th over. Playing in the WC, you don’t get a chance to do it every year. Knew we had to be fully committed every single ball against Pakistan. It was a complete effort from the team.
Monank Patel(USA Captain) said post-match
First six overs while batting, we couldn’t capitalise. We took momentum but back-to-back wickets hurt us. (Bowling) We were not up to the mark in the first six. Didn’t take wickets, spinners didn’t either. We came back in the end but couldn’t finish well. Hope to do well in the future. (Result makes it) Very hard, all credit to USA who did well in all three departments. That’s why they won. There was moisture in the pitch. It was two-paced. As professionals, we had to assess conditions better.
