T20 World Cup 2024, jointly hosted by the USA and West Indies, lived up to its hype with close finishes, breath-taking moments, and underdogs thumping world-class teams in the big matches. For the first time in history, the tournament featured 20 teams, three of which played their first-ever T20 World Cup. The co-host USA was one of the teams in the list of the T20 World Cup debut teams, and the other two were Canada and the African nation Uganda.

Here are the positives they took from the tournament and their journey to qualify for it. Some of them defeated good teams in the qualifiers to play their debut T20 World Cup.

Uganda

Uganda became the fifth African nation to play in the T20 World Cup. They ended the African Region Qualifiers by being second on the table after the table-toppers, Namibia. Uganda usurped the favorite Zimbabwe in the Qualifiers to win the match by 5 wickets. That was the first time they defeated a full-member nation in a T20I. After their win over Zimbabwe, they defeated Rwanda to book their spot in the T20 World Cup 2024.

How Was Uganda’s Run In Their Debut T20 World Cup?

Uganda’s performance in the T20 World Cup 2024 was decent, taking into account the fact that they got the exposure of facing international teams for the first time in the T20 World Cup. Uganda registered their maiden victory in the T20 World Cup 2024 by defeating Papua New Guinea by 3 wickets in a low-scoring contest. Though they couldn’t get clear of the league stage as other teams in the Group defeated them, the exposure will definitely help them rise in the game.

Canada

After failing to qualify for the T20 World Cup eight times, the North American nation Canada finally booked its birth in the T20 World Cup 2024. Canada was a new team included in the T20 World Cup 2024. They managed to qualify for the T20 World Cup 2024 after defeating Bermuda by 39 runs. Due to their high run rate, they edged past Bermuda to qualify for the T20 World Cup 2024 hosted by the USA and West Indies.

How Was Canada’s Run In Their Debut T20 World Cup?

Canada’s T20 World Cup 2024 journey was decent, as the team got a win in the four matches they played in the T20 World Cup 2024. They put on a show in the World Cup starter against the USA by posting 194 runs against the opponent in 20 overs. Unfortunately, even after scoring a massive total, they couldn’t win as USA’s Aaron Jones launched a counterattack on Canada’s bowlers while chasing the target, making it a cakewalk for his team. USA registered a victory by 7 wickets in the match. Canada’s big moment came when they defeated Ireland by 12 runs to register their first victory in the T20 World Cup 2024.

The United States of America was the co-host of the T20 World Cup 2024, so the cricket team of the USA got automatic qualification for the tournament. Monank Patel led the USA in the first two matches of the tournament, and they shocked the cricket community by registering victory in their first two games. The first victory came against Canada, whom they defeated by 7 wickets, but the second victory was a special one as it came against one of the best teams in the world, Pakistan, whom they defeated in a Super over. Monank Patel was POTM as the skipper scored a fifty to help his team reach closer to the target, and then Saurabh Netravalkar delivered an awesome Over, in the end, to register a victory by 5 runs against Pakistan.

How Was USA’s Run In Their Debut T20 World Cup?

Among the teams playing their first-ever T20 World Cup, the USA came out on top of the game due to their unbelievable performances against the top teams. They gave a tough time to India as well but lost the match. They were the only team among the debutants who qualified for the Super-8 stage after their brilliant performance in the league stage. However, in the Super-8, they lost three matches and remained out of the semi-finals. Whatever the results, they showed the world that Cricket could be the next game where the USA could do much better in the coming days.
