The ICC ODI World Cup is one of the most decorated tournaments in the game of cricket, and cricket nations around the world always try their best to qualify for this event. As of 2023, only ten teams are allowed to play in this marquee tournament. Though all the qualified teams play their hearts off to win every single match, only four could go to the knockout stage to have a chance to win the ODI World Cup. Various cricket teams have reached the knockout stage multiple times, and here are the names of those cricket teams that made it to the semi-finals of the ODI World Cup.

Australia made it to the semi-finals of the ODI World Cup nine times in the 13 ODI World Cups they have played, winning six of them, which is a record of its own as no other team has been so dominant in the ODI World Cup. New Zealand also made it to the semi-finals of the ODI World Cup nine times, like Australia, but they couldn’t win the title. Even though they finished the World Cup in 2019 and 2023 as the runner-ups, they couldn’t lift the trophy.
India reached the semi-finals eight times and in the finals four times, in which they lifted the trophy twice: once in 1983 and another time in 2011. In fact, India also reached the semi-finals of the World Cup 2023, but they were beaten by Australia to win the final.
England and Pakistan qualified for the playoffs in the ODI World Cup six times until 2023, and both teams won the title one time each. Pakistan won the title back in 1992 under the captaincy of Imran Khan, while England won the title for the first time in 2019 under Eoin Morgan.
South Africa is another team besides New Zealand that has never won a World Cup title. They went to the semi-finals of the World Cup five times, but sadly, they haven’t won the World Cup yet.
Sri Lanka and the West Indies entered the play-offs four times. Sri Lanka, utilizing the opportunity back in 1996, entered the final and claimed the title. As the West Indies won the first two titles of the ODI World Cup back in 1975 and 1979, they even reached the final of the 1983 World Cup, but India outclassed them to claim their first.
