THU vs SCO: Sherfane Rutherford’s innings helped Sydney Thunder snatch victory from Perth Scorchers in the final ball of the match.
After winning the toss, Sydney Thunder invited Perth Scorchers to bat first. Matty Hurst and Finn Allen started the innings for their team. Both batters were taking on Thunder’s pace attack brilliantly and took the team’s score to 51 inside the powerplay. In the 7th over, Chris Green picked up the first wicket of the match as Matty Hurst failed to capitalize on a loose delivery. Aaron Hardie joined Finn Allen, but the former got out early with a score of 10. Finn Allen, however, scored 67 runs for his team before getting out, and Cooper Connolly contributed 31 to the scoreboard as Perth Scorchers put 177 runs on the board at the end of 20 overs.
Chasing the target of 178 runs, Sydney Thunder’s start wasn’t good as opening batter Blake Nikitaras got out on the score of 1 in the second over of the chase. Matthew Gilkes and David Warner took responsibility and built a partnership to reduce the gap. Both left-handed batters took their team par 90 runs in 10 overs, but a brilliant delivery by Connolly helped his team make a comeback in the match. Scorchers’ fielders and tight deliveries by bowlers choked Thunder as David Warner got out on 49 runs. It was Sherfane Rutherford who rescued his team in the death overs. With 3 required in the last delivery, the left-handed batter hit a boundary to take his team home.
