Why was Shubman Gill Fined 12 Lakh INR in the fixture of GT vs CSK IPL Match on March 26, 2024

Find out the reason why IPL fined Shubman Gill 12 Lakhs INR in a match against Chennai Super Kings last night of IPL.

The new captain of Gujarat Titans Shubman Gill, was found guilty of not maintaining a good over rate in the match against Chennai Super Kings as he took lots of time in changing fields and bowlers in the first innings of the match but still lost the match by 63 runs.

It was a great game for the Chennai fans who came to the MA. Chidambaram Stadium supports their teams, especially the Chennai people, who always come in huge numbers to support their team CSK in the IPL. They are one of the reasons why Chennai does so well in every home match and this time the final will also be played in the Chennai ground which will be great for the fans if Chennai reaches the final which everyone expects.

Indian Premier League (IPL) in their official statement said “As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Gill was fined ₹12 lakhs.” To finish the match on time, in the IPL and even in international matches, there is a rule that the captain should keep the flow of the match and not take extra time to finish it because it breaks the concentration of the opposition team.

The captain is responsible for his team not finishing the match on time because it is the captain’s duty to make the call for fielding and bowling choices. It was the first time this season when a captain was fined due to a slow over-rate. It is not an easy role for a young player like Shubman Gill to lead a team full of stars in a high-intensity match of IPL, which is why there are chances that even in the future he will take more time to decide what to choose and which bowler he should go too in difficult situations.
