Rivalries in cricket make this sport more interesting. Some rivalries, such as India vs Pakistan, Australia vs England, etc., have attracted thousands of audiences worldwide. An old rivalry between Australia and South Africa will ignite again after 113 years at Lord’s, England. In the World Test Championship final, South Africa and Australia will play against each other for the red-ball trophy. The two met at Lord’s in 1912 when a triangular series between Australia, England, and South Africa happened, and they will meet today at Lord’s in the WTC final.

Australia will be captained by Pat Cummins, and South Africa will led by Temba Bavuma. Australia has already played one WTC final and won it against India in 2024. They reached the final for the second consecutive time to defend their title. Australian Players Steven Smith and Travis Head have an opportunity in their hands to become players in the World Test Championship final to reach 200 runs. Steve Smith is just 45 runs behind the mark of 200 as in the last two final innings, he scored 155 runs, whereas Travis Head just needs 19 runs.

Sanjay Bangar has already said that both teams need not pay attention to their past but play in the present to perform their best in the final. Regarding South Africa, he said that if they manage to win the final, then that will be great for the nation.

“This is a year of underdogs, and it could be a very good story for the relevance and the importance of the World Test Championship. And also because what happens is that if you have a big win as a country, then that has the potential to galvanise the cricketing fraternity in that particular nation. So if that has to happen, it will be fantastic for the growth of South Africa,”
