Chelsea FC is still looking for a striker after spending £1 billion in one year
According to reports, Chelsea FC are looking to bolster their attacking options in the January transfer window and have identified three strikers as their main targets.
The Blues have been struggling to score goals since Diego Costa left the club. According to The Athletic, Chelsea is keen to add a new striker to their squad and have a shortlist of three names: Dusan Vlahovic, Ollie Watkins, and Benjamin Sesko.
Vlahovic was the top scorer in Serie A in the 2021/2022 season, with 29 goals in 45 games for Fiorentina. The 23-year-old Serbian then joined Juventus for a huge transfer fee of €81.60m. He is valued at around £70 million by his club right now, as his goal-scoring form has dropped since he joined Juventus. Vlahovic is a powerful and clinical finisher who can also create chances for his teammates. In the summer transfer, Chelsea tried to have a swap deal in which they would replace Lukaku with Vlahovic plus cash.
Watkins are both proven Premier League strikers who have impressed for Aston Villa and Everton, respectively. Watkins has scored three goals in 6 games this season, and he can also play on the wings or as a second striker, offering Pochettino versatility. Watkins is a hard-working, intelligent forward who can stretch defenses with his pace and movement. He has a contract until 2025, but Aston Villa may struggle to keep him if they fail to qualify for Europe.
Chelsea are reportedly willing to spend big in January to boost their title chance, as they are not in any European competition. However, they may face competition from other clubs for their striker targets and potential difficulties in negotiating deals mid-season. Chelsea has also been linked with other strikers, such as Lautaro Martinez. They recently brought Nicolas Jackson from Villareal for about €35m.
