Erik Ten Hag Looks to Boost Manchester United Attack with Timo Werner

According to the Metro, Manchester United is eyeing a surprise move for former Chelsea flop Timo Werner in the January transfer window. The 27-year-old German striker, however, is determined to fight for his place at RB Leipzig.

Even though the whole world talks badly about Timo Werner’s career at Chelsea, it is not that bad because he is also the Champions League title winner and was one of the key players in that year who did so much for the team but was not given much credit.

The Red Devils are looking to bolster their squad next month, and Werner is among the options Erik Ten Hag is interested in. The Dutch manager wants to add more firepower to his attack and ease the pressure on Rasumus Hojlund.

The Danish forward, who joined from Atalanta for £72million in the summer, has been prolific in Europe with five goals but has yet to score in the Premier League and is sidelined with a hamstring injury.

Anthony Martial returned to the starting line-up against Everton on Sunday and played a key role in the 3-0 win, winning and converting a penalty before scoring his first league goal since May. The Frenchman has undeniable quality, but his fitness issues have often hampered his United career, and Ten Hag is looking for a more consistent alternative to Hojlund.

Ten Hag will have a limited budget, as he did last winter when he only managed to sign Wout Weghorst on loan after Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure. Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s takeover is still pending, and he is unlikely to splash the cash immediately, as he plans to invest in improving the club’s infrastructure.

Werner, meanwhile, had a mixed spell at Chelsea, where he scored 18 goals in 62 games but also missed several clear chances. He was eventually sold to RB Leipzig for £34million in August and has scored four goals in 12 games for the Bundesliga side.
