Iraq won against India by sheer luck and because of bad refereeing that gave Iraq a free penalty kick to level the score else the Indian Football team played quite well against the mighty Iraq team without their star players.
Iraq football team thought that it was going to be another easy game for them like they had in the past whenever they faced the Indian football team, but this team faced a new Indian football era as the players came quite strong against the Iraqis. This time, India was not just sitting back and trying to defend. They came attacking from each wing and played a good passing game throughout the match.
The biggest positive point of the match was when the Indian players did not feel nervous when the opposition put pressure on them, and they were able to clear the ball quite comfortably. Also, in the final third of the pitch, they were able to find their players, which was one of the biggest positives for them.
India took the lead in the match in the 16th minute when Sahal gave an amazing through pass to Mahesh, who was able to finish quite well and gave the Indian Football Team the lead. Soon, in the 28th minute, Iraq scored from the penalty spot as Jhingan was penalized because of a handball in the penalty area. It was Al-Hamadi who scored from the penalty spot to give the 1st goal to Iraq. The 2nd goal for India was a lucky break as the keeper of Iraq made an error to give India the lead in the goal in the 51st minute of the match.
The second goal for Iraq came because of the bad refereeing. The referee gave the penalty because he thought the center back of the Indian football team, Jhingan, pushed Aymen Ghadhban hard, which was not the case as it was fair play, but still, it was given, which gave Iraq their 2nd goal to level the score. The match went into the penalties, in which Iraq won the match by 5-4 to advance into the final of the King’s Cup.
