Manchester City has posted record-breaking revenue for the 2022/23 season, surpassing arch-rivals Manchester United by an impressive £65 million. The club recently published their updated accounts, revealing an overall revenue of £713 million, setting a new record for a Premier League team. In contrast, Manchester United announced revenue of £648 million for the same season, although they still reported a pre-tax loss of £33 million.

City’s remarkable financial performance was aided by their on-pitch success, as manager Pep Guardiola led the team to a historic treble-winning campaign the previous season. However, their growth extends beyond the field, with commercial revenue reaching £341.4 million. Key sponsorship deals with Etihad Airways, Puma, and Nexen Tire all played a significant role in boosting City’s commercial figures.

Matchday revenue also saw an increase, totaling £71.9 million, thanks to the larger number of games played during City’s pursuit of the treble. Broadcast income reached £299.4 million, fueled by City’s participation in the Champions League final and merit and facility payments from the Premier League.

As a result of their financial success, Manchester City was named the world’s most valuable football club brand in the 2023 Brand Finance Football report, with a value of £1.32 billion. In contrast, Manchester United was ranked lower in brand value, at £1.22 billion, placing fourth in the report.

This impressive financial performance underscores Manchester City’s status as a footballing powerhouse, both on and off the pitch. The club’s ability to generate substantial revenue and maintain a strong financial position positions them favorably in the highly competitive landscape of modern football.
