Hockey India League to Be Revived After 6-Year Hiatus

Hockey lovers, rejoice! The much-awaited news of the return of the Hockey India League (HIL) has finally been confirmed. The national federation has announced partners for all commercial and marketing-related operations related to the tournament. The idea of a city-based franchise league started in 2013, which allowed foreign players to participate and provided an excellent platform for budding Indian hockey players to showcase their skills. Unfortunately, financial hurdles put a stop to it in 2017. However, the format, dates, and number of teams for the revamped league will be decided later. It’s thrilling to see a significant step taken towards the growth and development of hockey in India. The HIL has been a crowd favorite in the past, and fans cannot wait for its return.

Hockey India is set to bring a new level of excitement to the sport with their revamped league, which will include tournaments for both men and women. Dilip Tirkey, the president of Hockey India, sees this as a critical stepping stone for India and a way to bring fresh energy to the sport worldwide. Hockey India has already been in talks with the International Hockey Federation (FIH) to secure the necessary windows for these tournaments. With the previous five editions of the Hockey India League being held in the January-February timeframe, this new development promises something truly exciting for hockey fans around the globe.
