India Beats China 2-1 in Women’s Asian Champions Trophy: Semi-Final Spot Secured

In a thrilling match, the Indian women’s hockey team secured a 2-1 victory against China in the Women’s Asian Champions Trophy 2023. The win guarantees India a spot in the semi-finals of the tournament.

The first quarter of the match was closely contested, with both teams matching each other in various aspects of the game. However, in the final minutes of the quarter,

India’s Sangita Kumari, the tournament’s top-scorer, helped secure a penalty stroke, which Deepika converted to give India the lead.

In the second quarter, China attempted to level the score and put pressure on the Indian team. Still, Salima Tete extended India’s lead with a powerful tomahawk shot from the center of the circle in the 26th minute.

China managed to pull one back in the 41st minute through a penalty corner, with Zhong Jiaqi converting neatly.

Despite India committing more players to defense in the final quarter, a yellow card for Vandana Katariya reduced India to 10 players for the last seven minutes. China took a gamble by substituting their goalkeeper with a field player, but India’s defense held firm under pressure, securing the 2-1 victory.

This win marks India’s 12th victory against China in 24 meetings. While China has secured 10 victories over India, including a 4-0 win in the semi-finals of the Asian Games 2023.

With three wins in three matches, India maintains a perfect record at the Asian Champions Trophy and secures a semi-final berth. Japan, also unbeaten after three matches, has a slightly better goal difference. India will face defending champions Japan in their next match in the Women’s Asian Champions Trophy.
