The Indian Men’s Hockey Team concluded their home leg of the FIH Hockey Pro League 2023/24 with a resounding 4-0 victory over Ireland, extending their unbeaten record in regulation time at the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Rourkela. Packed with passionate fans, the world’s largest seated hockey stadium witnessed India’s dominance on the field, led by Harmanpreet Singh and Vice-Captain Hardik Singh.
Throughout the home leg, India displayed commendable performances, securing draws against Spain, the Netherlands, and Australia, and climbing to the third spot in the FIH Hockey Pro League 2023/24 points table. Expressing gratitude to the hockey-loving community in Odisha, Harmanpreet Singh emphasized the special significance of playing in Rourkela and the energizing support received from the fans.
Singh, also the third-highest goal scorer of the season, attributed India’s success to the team’s mental and physical freshness post the South Africa tour and emphasized the team’s resilience against top-ranked opponents. India kicked off their FIH Hockey Pro League 2023/24 season in Bhubaneswar with a convincing win against Spain, followed by a draw against the Netherlands and a loss to Australia before securing a victory against Ireland.
Vice-Captain Hardik Singh echoed Singh’s sentiments, highlighting the team’s character and defensive improvements throughout the matches. He emphasized the importance of these performances in the team’s preparations for the Paris Olympics and expressed the team’s commitment to further enhancing their performance.
Looking ahead, the Indian Team is set to resume their FIH Hockey Pro League 2023/24 campaign in Antwerp, Belgium, where they will face Belgium and Argentina. Subsequently, they will compete against Germany and Great Britain in London’s Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre, starting from June 1.
