Mixed Martial Arts is one of those sports that has grown exponentially in India, according to India’s face of MMA, the “King of Lions,” Anshul Jubli, who secured a UFC contract last year, becoming the second to do so from India. The MMA star couldn’t win his debut in the UFC, losing against Mike Breeden. On his debut, he promised to bounce back even harder than his loss. Recently, Anshul Jubli appeared on Abhijit Chavda’s podcast show, where he shared his journey from being the person who was preparing to join the armed forces to becoming India’s most popular MMA fighter. Sharing his thoughts on the fighters missing weights during the weigh-ins, he said humorously that those fighters who miss weights should get jailed.

“Whenever a fighter misses weight, it depends on the other fighters whether he or she is willing to fight against a heavy opponent or not. If the fighter accepts the fight, then 30% of the fight pay of the opponent would be given as a reward, but it is not about that 30%; the fighter who misses weight should get jailed as one was suffering to make weight and the other didn’t”

Anshul Jubli said

Anshul Jubli also revealed the situation when he was told by his coach that his opponent had missed the weight by 3.5 pounds, regardless of the fact that “King of Lions” accepted the fight and made his debut in the UFC on October 21, 2023.

“I accepted the fight despite that, as I was representing my country in a sport that hasn’t seen that much growth, and pulling back from the fight after receiving such massive support from my fans and people wasn’t fair.”

He added

Anshul Jubli, talking about the issues of drug abuse in combat sports, advised that combat sports promotions should make strict rules and regulations to avoid drug abuse among fighters.
