Former UFC two-division champ Conor McGregor’s highly anticipated return kept getting delayed in 2024, and now it’s confirmed that the Irish star will not enter the cage this year; in his return, he was supposed to fight Michael Chandler as both coached TUF 31. The two were set to face off in June at UFC 303, but that didn’t happen due to the pullout of Conor McGregor. After the cancellation of the bout, Chandler decided to move on from chasing the red panties night and accepted a fight against former lightweight champ Charles Oliveira but announced that he would definitely fight Conor McGregor on the latter’s return.
The situation now has taken an unexpected turn as recently, in a BKFC event, number 5 ranked lightweight contender Dan Hooker hinted at a potential fight against Conor McGregor that caught the attention of the MMA fans. When asked by the UFC CEO Dana White during a press conference about his opinion on the potential matchup between Conor and Hooker, he revealed his interest in doing so. Still, he pulled himself from making it official for now.

Whether the fight will come to fruition or not is yet to be seen, but Michael Chandler would be disappointed after nearly wasting 2 years of his fighting career he got nothing plus, if Conor McGregor makes his return to the Octagon next year in February then he will not be the first preference of the UFC, as at UFC 309 scheduled for November he will face Charles Oliveira and who knows how much damage both fighters would inflict on each other and if the fight goes to distance then Chandler will need some time to recover and two months to get back to the Octagon is not what most of the fighters can do.
