Former UFC Champion Questions Islam Makhachev Rankings Above Jon Jones

Former UFC lightweight champion Rafael Dos Anjos recently questioned the pound-for-pound rankings of the UFC, which list Islam Makhachev as the number one pound-for-pound fighter above Jon Jones, who is ranked second. The UFC’s current P4P rankings don’t make any sense to the former champion, who criticizes the UFC for ranking Islam Makhachev as number one. He compared the UFC record of Jon Jones and his title defense in the UFC to that of the current lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev.

Jon Jones 13 title defenses, double champ, undefeated: #2 PFP ranking. Islam Makachev: 2 title defenses against Volks [145lbs champ], 1 loss by knockout: #1 PFP. Please someone give me a good reason to take whoever does this rankings seriously.”

Islam Makhachev has rose to the number one spot in the P4P rankings after defeating the featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 294, whereas Jon Jones, who is still quoted as undefeated in the UFC if we don’t count the disqualification loss of him, made his return last year at UFC 285 in the heavyweight division and shocked everyone by winning the fight in the very first round against the challenger Ciryl Gane. His fight was booked against the former heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic, but an unfortunate injury made him pull out of the fight. He will make a return later this year.

Islam Makhachev has defeated top contenders in the lightweight division and will be seen in the octagon once he gets fully recovered from the alleged injury. He is expected to fight in the octagon in the summer after Ramadan.
