Ilia Topuria after his fight

UFC featherweight champ Ilia Topuria is not looking to fight forever and wants to spend just a few more years in the Octagon. Since his UFC 308 performance against Max Holloway, where he knocked out the latter to defend his title, “El matador” has been calling out fighters from different weight divisions. He is planning to move to the lightweight division as no one in the featherweight division excites him now. He called out Islam Makhachev and his team earlier as the two went back and forth on social media but a face-off in the octagon between these two is unlikely to happen soon.

I a podcast appearance at the El Partidazo de Cadena Cope, Ilia Topuria revealed his future plans and the champ is looking to retire by 30.

”I’m 27, I hope to be out by 30. Right now, in my division, I no longer have the motivation to defend the belt anymore. Now I want to move up a category and we’ll see how everything goes.”

El Matador’s retirement plans caught Conor McGregor’s attention as the former two-division champion reacted by boasting that he achieved all fame when he was 27 years old.

”Here’s the truth that will hurt all the little wannabe nobodies. Fighting was too easy for me, I done it all by 27 years old.”

Conor McGregor posted

With the uncertainty about getting Islam Makhachev soon, Ilia Topuria is looking to fight former lightweight champ Charles Oliveira in 2025. First, the champ needs to settle business with the former featherweight champ Alexander Volkanovski one more time. Then, if the UFC allows him to fight at a higher weight class, he can fight for a second belt, and who knows, after that, he can achieve the status of three-weight class champ.
