Nick Diaz Out Of UFC 310, Themba Gorimbo Will Be His Replacement

Nick Diaz and Nate Diaz

UFC veteran Nick Diaz is officially out from the UFC 310. The Stockton native was scheduled to fight Vicente Luque in a welterweight bout at the end of the year, which would have marked his return to the octagon after almost 3 years, but that ain’t going to happen as Nick Diaz has pulled out from the event. His last fight at UFC 266 didn’t end on a good note as the veteran looked sloppy and not in the mindset to fight Robbie Lawler, eventually losing the bout to the latter via knockout. Robbie Lawler, kind enough post-bout, asked his rival if he was doing well in life or needed any support. It was an emotional moment for all Diaz fans, as it was hard to see a veteran like Nick Diaz in such a situation.

Before the news of Nick Diaz’s pullout from UFC 310 went public, former UFC champ Daniel Cormier had already raised his concerns that the announced bout would never happen.

“I think for Nick, he has to be really locked in if he wants to go out there and not embarrass himself. Everything that he ever did in the octagon starts to get diminished whenever you go out there and you do what you did against Robbie, which was he quit. He was like, ‘I don’t wanna do this.’ Right? You had to make a decision, and he said, ‘I don’t I don’t wanna do this right now. I’m done. I don’t wanna fight.’

As per the latest updates, the UFC has replaced Nick Diaz with Zimbabwean fighter Themba Gorimbo. Gorimbo is on a five-fight win streak and won his last bout via unanimous decision against Niko Price. Vicente Luque lost his last bout against Joaquin Buckley, and it will be interesting to see whether he can change his game plan in such a short time to get a win in December.
