“I’m just waiting” Tom Aspinall Gives Updates on Fight With Jon Jones

UFC interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall waited a year to get his title fight against the reigning heavyweight champ Jon Jones, who is reluctant to give the British fighter a chance to get his hands on the belt as, according to the champ, the Brit doesn’t deserve a title shot. At UFC 295, Tom Aspinall fought Sergei Pavlovich, who was once considered one of the most formidable opponents in the heavyweight division; Aspinall not only agreed to fight Pavlovich on 17-day short notice, but he knocked out the Russian in the 1st round of the fight to become interim heavyweight champ.

Recently, in a video on his YouTube channel, the Brit said that he had already said “Yes” to the fight and was waiting for the UFC and Jon Jones to deal with the negotiations and announce it.

“I’m just waiting at the minute. I’ve said yes to the fight, I’ve agreed to it, obviously. That’s it, I’m just waiting for his side and the UFC to sort it out. I’m just training and getting everything focused to be as fit and ready as I possibly can. Because who knows? They might spring the date on me quick!

He then defended his interim title against his old rival Curtis Blaydes, against whom he injured his knees earlier. When UFC booked a rematch between these two fighters at UFC 304, the interim champ came out on top and finished the fight in the first round. Post-UFC 304, Tom Aspinall called out Jon Jones, following which the two went back and forth on social media several times before Jon Jones defended his belt against Stipe Miocic at UFC 309.

Post-UFC 309, Jon Jones said that he is willing to fight Tom Aspinall if the negotiations with the UFC go his way.
