The one fight that can be labeled as the “Cursed” one in the history of the UFC was the fight between Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov; inarguably, it was a cursed fight as UFC scheduled it 5 times and due to some other reasons, it never came to fruition. However, Tony Ferguson still believes that the former lightweight champ can give the fans the fight they always wanted and that it doesn’t need to be an MMA fight; the reason behind the faith was Khabib Nurmagomedov’s father’s comments before his unfortunate demise.
Khabib’s father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, said that a fight between Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov would be a huge one as the “El Cucuy” was defeating every opponent the UFC threw at him. However, whenever they tried to get these two in the octagon, it never came to reality. In his recent conversation with the MMA Junkie, the former UFC fighter said this.
I am the only person his dad said before he passed away that this is the fight to make. “Now, regardless if it’s a fight, grappling, or anything, I know that he does keep his dad’s word.”
El Cucuy said
But a fight between these two will not happen as Khabib Nurmagomedov has left fighting, and he is not going to step in the case again, as he said before taking retirement from the UFC.
Tony Ferguson’s UFC career took a downward curve after his fight with Justin Gaethje, where the former interim lightweight champ took massive damage, and after that, he secured no victory in his next 7 fights. After his 8th consecutive defeat in the UFC, the fighter decided to hang up his gloves and started searching for new endeavors. Under the GFL banner, Tony Ferguson was announced to fight Dillon Danis, but the fight faced delays due to sponsorship issues. However, there is still the chance that fans will see Tony Ferguson in the cage again this year. Sadly, he is way past his prime, and fans only want to see him retire from fighting.
