After knocking out two veterans back to back, the Spaniard renounced the title to follow his dream of becoming the double champion and decided to move up to the lightweight division. His actual target was former champ Islam Makhachev, but the latter moved up to Welterweight to fight for the title.
Merab Dvalishvili will defend his title against “Suga” at UFC 316 this weekend. The latter has an opportunity to regain the UFC title from whom he lost it. “The Machine” defeated “Suga” at UFC Noche to become the champion, and then he defended the belt once against the tough competitor Umar Nurmagomedov in January 2025. Whether Sean O’Malley will get the belt back or lose it to the Georgian will be seen at UFC 316.
