UFC welterweight contender Colby Covington has joined the party of criticizing Ilia Topuria’s decision to move to the Welterweight division after the lightweight division, as the Spaniard has dreams of becoming the first-ever three-division champion of the UFC. Before Colby Covington, another Welterweight contender, the undefeated Kazakh fighter Shavkat Rakhmonov mocked the featherweight champ by posting an edited picture of him giving an arm submission to Ilia Topuria. Now, Colby Covington shared his opinions on the featherweight champ while talking to Submission Radio.

”I don’t think it’s smart, he’s [Topuria] very short, he’s only like 5’7, 5’8 maybe at most. So he needs to stay in his Lane.”

Colby Covington said

However, despite criticizing the Spaniard, Colby praised the champ for his impressive victories and knockout power and gave him full credit for his victories against two former featherweight champs whom he knocked out back to back.

‘I get what he’s doing though, he’s a great fighter man, he’s knocking people out left and right, he’s beating two of the greatest featherweights in history. Let him talk his talk right now but he needs to stay in his lane, stay in his division. He’s a 145 guy, he’s not a 170 guy and if he comes to 170, let’s see him go to 55 first. He’s just talking right now, until you actually go up to 55, then you really shouldn’t even be talking about 170

Covington added

Colby Covington was beaten by Leon Edwards via unanimous decision at UFC 296, and the welterweight is in limbo. Despite talking trash about the undefeated Welterweight contender Ian Garry, the two haven’t settled the feud in the Octagon yet, and the UFC doesn’t have plans to do so yet. “Chaos,” called out Rakhmonov, but the UFC had other plans for the Kazakh fighter.
