UFC Bantamweight champ, Merab Dvalishvili has been a riddle that no-one in his division has been able to solve. His first title defense already made him the GOAT of the Bantamweight division, the title defense against thought to be the only fighter who can defeat the Georgian was drowned by Merab in deep waters as the fight proceeds, Umar Nurmagomedov or the “Young Eagle” started good but as the fight heads to the third round he started feeling the pressure of Merab Dvalishvili, his lethal cardio was too much to tackle for the challenger and at the end he met the same fate the other Bantamweight opponents of the champ met in recent fights. Merab Dvalishvili won via unanimous decision.
Now, the question arises: Is there anyone who can decode the puzzle Merab Dvalishvili brings to the octagon? UFC Bantamweight contender Cory Sandhagen thinks he has the perfect plan to beat the champ. Talking with Luke Thomas, Cory Sandhagen said that the victory against the champ goes through fighting at the center of the octagon and not moving backward from him.
The more that you move your feet, the more tired you’re gonna get, especially if that movement is backwards. You have to stand your ground against Merab. Don’t run from him, and hit him when he comes in. Make your movement a lot smaller because it is all that footwork that really tires people out.”
Cory Sandhagen said
The American mixed martial artist learned the strategy the hard way after being defeated by Umar Nurmagomedov, whom Merab defeated in the title defense. Cory’s approach against Wrestlers was a passive one, and that’s what he thinks cost him the fight.
You need to try to set a pace that you can hold. Boxers are okay with losing a couple of rounds if it means winning the entire fight. They know how to set a pace.”
