Stipe Miocic Hung Up His Gloves After UFC 309 Loss To Jon Jones

UFC heavyweight veteran Stipe Miocic hung up his gloves after a one-sided loss to Jon Jones at UFC 309. Stipe Miocic, 42 now, was no match for Jon Jones as the heavyweight champ defended his title against the former champ in a one-sided bout. From Round 1, Jones showed why he is named one of this era’s greatest fighters. He smartly maintained the distance and landed a leg kick to the mid-region of the Stipe Miocic, which hurt the latter badly. Sensing the damage, Jon Jones kept targeting the body and continued his pressure on the ground as well. It was all Jon Jones, as Miocic didn’t get a chance to land clean shots in the third round. A spin kick to the ribs dropped Stipe as the referee ended the fight, handing a TKO victory to “Bones.”

After the fight, when asked what his plans for the future were, the 42-year-old veteran couldn’t say much but to announce his retirement.

“I’m done,”“I’m hanging them up. I’m retiring. Thank God.”

Miocic said

Despite losing the bout Stipe Miocic didn’t make excuse for his loss and praised Jon Jones for his victory calling him the better man of the fight and wished him luck for his future endeavors.

“I expected everything. I just didn’t do what I was supposed to do. Congratulations to him, he did what he was supposed to do and he won. Hats off to him, I want nothing but the best for him.”

Miocic added

Stipe has a legendary career in the Octagon and has the most number of heavyweight title defenses to his name(4). He defeated veterans like Daniel Cormier and Alistair Overeem in his UFC career. Former champ Francis Ngannou is also on that list. Coming back to the winner, Jon Jones, he is supposed to fight Interim champ Tom Aspinall next.
